Yes, you can infuse your lemonade with the aromatic herb, basil. It may be the best way to drink it this summer.
The Basil herb is synonymous with Italain food, but did you know it makes a great infusion for your lemonade? I know it may sound surprising and I felt the same way until my friend asked me to just try it.
Wow.
This fantastic, versatile herb loves direct sunlight and will do fantastic whether in the garden or in a pot. Encourage your plant to grow bushier by pinching off the top set of leaves. New leaves will sprout on either side of the stem. Keep pinching for more growth.
Remember last summer and how brutal it was? My basil plants thrived all the way through winter until the freeze. Chalk it up to a weird season or not, but I'm hoping I can have the same success this year without the consecutive days of over 100 degrees.
I was able to make homemade pesto, freeze chopped leaves in olive oil, dehydrate some AND use fresh, especially in my lemonade.
If you stop by the shop as the days warm up I usually have some basil lemonade to sample.
I'm going to share this super easy infusion and ask you to simply give it a try.
Basil Infused Lemonade
Ingredients :
1 gallon of lemonade (I use Country Time Lemonade but you can squeeze those lemons for freshness)
1 handful of fresh chopped basil
1 fillable tea bag
Ice
Directions:
Make your lemonade
Add ice to chill if you'd like
Rinse your basil leaves and finely chop so you can fit them in your tea bag. (I buy mine on Amazon).
Make sure the bag is closed securely
Then insert tea bag into container and cover. Let the basil infuse for at least 15 minutes, but 30 minutes is best.
You can either remove the bag or leave in. Serve lemonade over ice and enjoy .
That's it. Super easy, right? Try mashing strawberries or add blueberries to the bag if you feel adventurous.
Let me know if you tried it. What did you think?
